FollowGondola is an initiative created by Regione del Veneto. It provides an interactive map of Venice that allows to identify the main places of interest as regards gondolas and discover characteristics of the most famous boat in the world which are perhaps not yet known by everyone. In addition to being accessible from any browser, FollowGondola is most of all an App, which can be downloaded onto a smartphone equipped with geolocation both on Android and IOS platforms. This App will lead the user on a trail through the city in search of the boatyards where gondolas are built and the workshops where Venetian artisans create the individual parts which make up a gondola.
FollowGondola was funded by the AdriaMuse project as part of the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme IPA Adriatic 2007-2013, and is available for free download.
In line with the project objective of enhancing the shared cultural heritage of the Adriatic coast, Regione del Veneto promoted an in-depth analysis on the theme of traditional river and sea navigation practiced between the Euganean Hills and the Venetian Lagoon, as well as on the trades connected to this. The results have been published in the volume Tra Colli Euganei e laguna veneta. Dal museo della navigazione al turismo sostenibile (Between the Euganean Hills and the Venetian Lagoon. From the navigation museum to sustainable tourism)
